Thoughts on my Middle East trip and new water restrictions

| Posted in Nunes Blog

I just returned from a trip to Europe and the Middle East, where a highlight was the chance to meet with U.S. troops stationed overseas. I also spoke to representatives of our Middle Eastern allies, who are rightfully worried by spreading instability and violence. Aside from the battle against ISIS in Syria, Iraq, and northern Africa, Iran is a major concern. Using proxy militias as well as their... Read more »

Congress must act to protect against cyberattacks

| Posted in Opinion Pieces

The Hill In the virtual equivalent of a jewel heist in which thieves make their way into a heavily defended showroom through the ventilation shaft, cyberattackers are exploiting vulnerabilities in our digital networks to steal millions of Americans’ personal, financial and medical records. In today’s digitally connected world, America’s businesses, critical infrastructure, government and consumers... Read more »

A week in the Valley

| Posted in Nunes Blog

I was back in the Valley this week, where I enjoyed having a townhall meeting with around a hundred Cigna employees who discussed ObamaCare, jobs, water, and other issues with me. Hundreds of Cigna jobs in Visalia had been jeopardized by ObamaCare regulations that put U.S. insurers at a disadvantage with foreign-based companies in issuing health plans for Americans living overseas. However, a bip... Read more »

Congressman Devin Nunes (CA-22), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address: “Although the House of Representatives passed a cybersecurity bill in the last Congress, our efforts died in the Senate amid a presidential veto threat. So I welcome the President's recognition tonight of th... Read more »

What I saw in the Middle East

| Posted in Nunes Blog

I recently returned from a trip to the Middle East that included visits to the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Erbil. There was some good news out of Iraq recently, as Kurdish fighters – helped by U.S. airstrikes – pushed back ISIS forces around the town of Sinjar. This advance broke ISIS’s siege of Mount Sinjar, where thousands of civilians had fled after ISIS launched a calculated campaign of mass ... Read more »

Congressman Devin Nunes (CA-22) issued the following statement after Speaker of the House John Boehner appointed him as the next Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence: “At a time when the United States faces major international challenges including significant terror threats, I am honored and humbled to have been entrusted with this position. I’d like to thank Chairman R... Read more »

President Obama, His Royal Highness

| Posted in Nunes Blog

One would think President Obama would interpret his latest Election Day shellacking as a resounding vote of no confidence in his agenda by the American people. But bizarrely, the president reportedly feels “liberated” by his party’s loss of control of the Senate. Even before the new Congress is seated, he plans to dramatically change the immigration system by signing executive orders, apparently ... Read more »

A day in Dinuba

| Posted in Nunes Blog

I recently spent a great day in Dinuba, where I was honored to present Fred Ruiz with a resolution commemorating the 50-year anniversary of Ruiz Foods. I also want to thank Reda and Brenda Bennani for the excellent lunch they provided at Bennani’s restaurant. Separately, I’d like to draw your attention to this Washington Post article about the use of water as a weapon in Iraq by the Islamic State... Read more »

Another Islamic State atrocity

| Posted in Nunes Blog

The Islamic State is continuing its atrocities, most recently with its destruction of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Church in the Syrian town of Der Zor. The attack, whose results are shown above, was a typical act of Islamic State barbarism, this time aimed at a Christian minority group that has long suffered oppression and even genocide in the region. For my take on fighting the Islamic State ... Read more »
