This week, Rep. Devin Nunes (CA-21), Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (WI-1), Rep. John Shimkus (IL-19), Rep. Mike Simpson (ID-02) and Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-1), along with 51 other Republican lawmakers, introduced comprehensive energy legislation titled A Roadmap for America’s Energy Future (see the list of original co-sponsors here).
The Energy Roadmap is a budget neutral, comprehensive national energy strategy. It delivers lower energy prices, enhanced energy security, and lasting economic growth by addressing both the short and long-term energy needs of the United States. The text of the legislation, along with explanatory documents can be found at www.nunes.house.gov.
The Energy Roadmap was immediately recognized for its innovative approach to renewable energy, as well as its clear mandate of an “all of the above” approach.
“Congressman Nunes’ ‘Roadmap for America’s Energy Future’ is an innovative approach to unlocking America’s tremendous energy potential while diminishing the influence of special interests that waste taxpayer dollars on unproductive ventures. Any Member of Congress that seeks a better energy future should start with the ‘Roadmap’ in hand.” - National Taxpayers Union.
“The bill is both innovative and audacious. Nunes’ Roadmap hinges on at least one key insight: advances in energy efficiency are often inextricably linked with energy production. And perhaps the most impressive part of the legislation is that it won’t cost taxpayers a thing.” - Mark Hemingway, The Weekly Standard.
“The Roadmap for America’s Energy Future promotes an energy policy that is both market-based and technology neutral. It provides a thoughtful national energy policy that promotes the economic interest of the private sector by reasonably expanding permits and licenses to engage in energy exploration and development, and by encouraging private sector development of new energy sources in an economically sensible way.” - Free Enterprise Nation.
“For too long, Congress has earmarked energy projects and watched taxpayer dollars squandered on unproductive no-bid contracts. Rep. Nunes' legislation provides a clear, comprehensive roadmap that promotes environmentally-sound production of American-made energy while simultaneously offering a free-market approach to renewable energy investment that will secure the nation's energy future,” - Council for Citizens Against Government Waste.
The Energy Roadmap claims the moral high ground when it comes to energy policy but more importantly, it actually achieves the promises it makes. The bill will facilitate the production of abundant, affordable, and diverse energy while exceeding President Barack Obama’s carbon reduction goals. |
