Nunes Reaction to the President’s Speech: “President Stuck in a time warp.”

Earlier today, President Obama delivered a speech on the deficit. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) provided the following response:

“The President’s remarks today suggest he is stuck in a time warp. He apparently doesn’t understand that elections have consequences. His proposal for the largest tax increase in American history is a non-starter and suggests a complete lack of understanding of our nation’s economic and budgetary challenges. Simply put, we do not have a revenue problem. The growth in debt is due to an unprecedented growth in spending – growth that is projected to eclipse the heights of World War II in a few short years.

In sharp contrast to the President’s posturing today, House Republicans are offering a solution that tackles the cause of our nation’s debt – spending. We are not interested in punishing struggling American families with more taxation; nor are we inclined to push more jobs out of our country by doubling down on America’s current role as the most heavily taxed business environment in the developed world.

I hope the President and his colleagues in the Senate realize that they are playing politics with the economic future of our nation, because unless they come to the table with serious proposals, that is exactly what they are doing.”
